Honest Blocks in play: an 8 by 8 board partly filled with coloured blocks, a score of 162 at the top, an Undo button marked AD, and three pieces waiting in the tray.

The promise

Three promises. No small print.

  • No ads interrupt your game

No ad ever interrupts a game, and none plays when the app opens. No banners anywhere.

    How ads work
  • Fair pieces

Every piece is chosen at random. The game never looks at your board to choose pieces.

    How fair pieces work
  • One honest price

One purchase removes every ad, paid once. Never a subscription. Nothing you buy changes a leaderboard score.

    The one purchase

Fair pieces

Every piece. Its exact odds. Published.

Every piece and its exact odds are published. The game never looks at your board.

  • Each tray is three pieces drawn at random from published chances: gentler at the start of every game, tougher later, the same for everyone.
  • Some games will be unlucky. That is what real randomness looks like.
  • The same seed gives the same pieces on every phone.
How fair pieces work
The Fair pieces screen in the game. It says the game never looks at your board to choose pieces, then lists each shape with its odds, such as 4.0%, 40 in 1000.

Honest ads

Every button that plays an ad says so.

Ads keep the game free. Here is exactly how they are used, and the game tells you the same thing.

  • No ad ever interrupts a game, and none plays when the app opens.
  • At most one short ad between games, no more than once every 4 minutes, and at most after every other game. None between games in your first 5 games.
  • One optional undo ad per game, marked with an AD tag. You can always say no.
  • Coins you find while playing buy new looks and sounds. Coins are never sold, and ads never give coins.
Read every ad rule
The How ads work screen in the game: never while you play; at most one between games; optional ads are labelled with an AD tag; no banners, no tricks.

Daily Puzzle and leaderboards

The same puzzle for the whole world, every day.

Everyone playing on the same date gets the same pieces. See where you stand in your country and in the world.

  • Names are made for you from word lists, like "Brave Otter 4821". Nobody types a name, and there is no chat.
  • Each week the Country Cup ranks countries against each other.
  • A game that used an undo never goes on a leaderboard, paid or not.
The Leaderboards screen in the game, with tabs for Today, All-Time and Country Cup, the player's country and generated name, and a list of players with flags, generated names and scores.
From a development build. The names and scores shown are samples, not real players.

Challenge a friend

Send a link. They get exactly your pieces.

Because the pieces are fair, a challenge is a true head-to-head: same pieces, same order, best score wins.

  • The link carries your game's seed and your score to beat.
  • Challenge games do not count for best scores or the leaderboards.
The Challenge screen in the game. It asks: Can you beat this score? Score to beat: 4,820. You get the same pieces, in the same order.

How you play

Three steps. That is the whole game.

  1. Drag a piece on

You get three pieces. Drag them onto the 8 by 8 board in any order. Pieces cannot be turned.

  2. Fill a line

Fill a whole row or column and it clears. Clear several at once, or several turns in a row, for more points.

  3. Keep going

Place all three and three new pieces appear. The game ends when none of your pieces fits.

The difference

What we do differently.

Free puzzle games have to pay for themselves somehow. Here is how many of them do it, and how this one does.

Many free block puzzlesHonest Blocks
AdsAds after most games, sometimes every gameNo ad interrupts a game. Between games, at most after every other game.
PiecesHow pieces are chosen is rarely explainedTruly random, with the odds published
PriceOften several things to buy, sometimes a subscriptionOne price, once
SizeOften much largerUnder 15 MB

Not every game does these things, and plenty of puzzle games are made with care. This is simply what Honest Blocks promises.

Easier to see

Made to be comfortable for more people.

  • Large text

One switch makes the game's words bigger.

  • High contrast

Blocks that stand out more from the board.

  • Colour-blind patterns

A pattern on each colour, so colour is never the only clue.

  • Vibration

A light tap when a piece lands. Turn it off any time.

The one purchase

One price, once. Never a subscription.

Remove All Ads is a one-time purchase through Google Play, at the price Google Play shows, about US$3.99 in the United States. There is nothing else to buy.

  • It removes every ad, including the optional ones.
  • Your one undo per game becomes free.
  • It restores on a new phone with the same Google account.
  • If Google Play refunds the purchase, the ads come back.

Who makes it

One person.

A dad who got tired of block games full of ads and tricks, and decided to build the one he wanted to play.

You can write to him at support@honestblocks.app.
